Quilting & Sewing
CJ’s Sewing Room
2nd Half

I started out in 1999 with a Bernina 170QPE, which I “inherited” from my now husband, but then fiance. Gee, what more reason does a girl need to marry a guy then one who owns a Bernina?
I didn’t really start sewing much though, until about 2003. When we sold our farm and bought the RV, I traded the 170 in on a 440 the next year. And a year ago, I traded the 440 in on a 630. My how I hated to let the 440 go! The 630 is my primary embroidery machine, and it does a superb job at that! I do enjoy a 5mm machine for embroidery because of the larger bobbin. The animation screens on the 630 are a true joy when embroidering, and this machine can run all day long, non stop, without getting hot at all.
The Bernina 1300MDC is the serger I use… and it’s awesome! It does a beautiful rolled hem, serges like a dream, and I’ve had fun using some heavy crochet yarns in the loopers for creative effects.
And last, there’s my Bernina 730. The sewing machine of my dreams! It brings a smile to my face every time I turn it on and use it, which is often as it is my primary machine.
I have the embroidery modules for both my 630 and my 730, so they both get used for many different roles.
I use Bernina’s Designer Plus version 5.0 digitzing and embroidery software, the new Bernina My Label garment software, Wild Ginger’s Pattern Master Boutique, and Adobe Illustrator in my sewing hobby, and hope to learn to use them all better. That’s actually one of my goals every year! But there’s so much to learn and I just keep muddling along.

If you’d like to ask questions, share your experiences or just say hi, feel free to use the Quilter’s Chat I’ve added! It will serve as a replacement to the Wandering Quilter forums which I no longer maintain. No need to register, sign in or anything, just post away or see what everyone else is talking about. I still maintain the Wandering Quilter email discussion group as well, which caters to users of the Bernina 430/440, 630/640 and 730 machines.
I have a new machine in my stable, I’ve coveted a stand alone coverstitch machine for sometime
now, and have added the Babylock BLCS. I seem to be moving away from quilting more into home decor, crafts and garment sewing these days.
Naturally I looked at the Bernina coverstitch machine first, but it can’t do a triple coverstitch, and doesn’t have the accessories that the Babylock offered.

Tutorials
This section is a Work in Progress… we quilters are famous for those. I wasn’t going to make this area available for public viewing until I completed it, and then I had to smack myself as I realized it was going to be an ongoing project.
If you have something to add to the tutorials, please email me and I’ll include your notes.
